Women's Empowerment Conference

The Latino Resource Center, in collaboration with De Mujer a Mujer, will host its 12th annual Women's Empowerment Conference on Mar. 30, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. This year's theme is: Breaking Barries in the Community.

What is the Women's Empowerment Conference?

The Women's Empowerment Conference is an annual event hosted by the Latino Resource Center and women-centered student organizations. The conference focuses on:

  • Providing women of color with the personal and professional development needed to succeed in college
  • Cultivating the leadership skills that will prepare them for the working world
  • Educating them about the importance of maintaining their cultural heritage and well-being.

This conference focuses on providing social supportacademic guidance and leadership opportunities that foster self-confidenceself-awarenessself-esteem and increase the retention and graduation rates of women of color at the high school and college level. Free light breakfast and free lunch will be provided to all attendees.

Although this conference is designed to promote services specific to the needs of women of color, all college and high school women identified are welcome to attend the conference.

Check-in and Cost

Check-in is from 9:30-10 a.m. The event will begin promptly at 10 a.m. There is no cost to attend the conference.

Registration and Login Information

Once you register, you will be sent a confirmation email with details about the conference and a reminder one week prior to the conference date.

Online Registration

Important note: If you are under the age of 18, you must submit a parent permission form no later than Friday, Mar. 15. To submit a parent permission form, contact lsantosrivas@niu.edu. You must bring the physical signed form to the conference during check-in.

Cancellations

Substitutions of registrants may be made, without penalty, any time prior to the program's commencement. However, if you do not have a substitute for the registrant, we ask that you cancel at least one week (March 22, 2024) prior to the conference date to allow other students on the waitlist to be able to attend.

What to Wear

All participants should wear business casual attire for the conference.
